Laminated glass in a factory-glazed unit, never a site-built assembly. The kit is cheap relative to the unit and it is not the place to save.
Repairs are almost never the glass. Nine times in ten the leak is the flashing kit, the curb-to-deck connection, or a head detail that was sealed instead of lapped, and the fix is to open it and re-flash it. Running another bead of sealant around a skylight is a way of paying twice for the same leak. We open the head detail first, because that is where the water starts.
Old units are worth replacing rather than repairing when the acrylic has gone milky and brittle or the frame seal has failed, because an aged dome cracks under debris during a wind event and then you have the leak and the broken glass at once. If a unit is sound and only the flashing has gone, we re-flash it and leave the skylight alone. Matching an obsolete frame size is the usual complication.
